At the end of August 2012, our church held our annual event, “Rockin’ From the Roof”. This event draws a very large crowd every year, and requires a significant number of volunteers to help out. You will see me refer to the Safety Team all throughout this series as the Safety Team Ministry. This is because I believe that any Safety Team that works within a church, or para-church, organization must be a true ministry at its very heart. 10 Things Nobody Told You About Church Safety – Introduction
About four years ago, as I write this article, there was a horrific mass murder at a Colorado-based youth missions training center, and the church that funded that center. On that fateful Sunday morning at Youth With a Mission and New Life Church, a man with a grudge set out to kill as many people as possible. He succeeded in killing two youths, and then proceeded to drive a little over an hour to attack the church that ran the facility. Continue reading
